HOLIDAY FARE

Stepping into La Crémaillère is a lovely experience during any season, but there is something particularly special during the holidays. Here, you can indulge in a bûche de Noël for dessert or celebrate the New Year with Eggs en Cocette—an egg custard that signifies new birth for the coming year—by a roaring fire.

“We love the holiday season because we see so many of our customers come in with their families as part of their tradition,” says Bobbi Mezon, who with her husband Robert has owned the restaurant since 1993. La Crémaillère’s food is rooted in tradition as well, but Ms. Mezon notes that diners in 2015 can be accommodated with vegetarian meals or gluten-free pasta.

“Our cuisine is country French, and the dishes are full of flavor but not necessarily calories.” (Unless one partakes in the decadent chocolate soufflé.) The décor features murals of people in costumes from various regions of France, and seating options include both a light-filled, informal bar room and more formal dining areas.

In France, hanging a crémaillère, or a chimney hook, is a symbol of hospitality and signifies “good food and good friends,” Ms. Mezon says.

She and her husband aim to honor that tradition in the restaurant, having it be a place where dining is an occasion to share.
