FOOD AND MEMORIES
“The holidays are the time when what we eat is based on our memories,” says Armonk’s Zero Otto Nove chef Ciro Perrotta. And during this season he cooks “food that plays with our imagination” and relishes familes and friends enjoying their time around the table.
The Armonk restaurant, where more than half its patrons are familiar with the original 089 on Arthur Avenue and its sister restaurant Roberto’s, may not have a fireplace, but it does have a wood-burning pizza stove and is decorated in the spirt of the holidays. “Our dishes are based on a peasant style but with a twist,” says Perrotta. Holiday specialties include bacala (salted cod) and struffoli (mini doughnuts coated in a honey glaze).
Chef Perrotta notes the food at Zero Otto Nove is perfectly suited to this time of year. “Customers want a break from cooking at home, they don’t care about diets, and want to enjoy the flavors of the season.” These are evident in such dishes as pizza La Ricardo with butternut squash puree, smoked mozzarella, pancetta, and basil.
The restaurant also features a seasonal beer and cocktail menu. But while Zero Otto Nove is all about sharing food, customers may keep their cocktails or wine to themselves.
